Maisie Couldwell's Art Portfolio

Exploring creativity and world building using a mixture of physical and digital media.

Digital Art

The main image composites multiple photos I took. Other artworks are digital sketches based on photos I've taken.

Materials: digital sketches and photoshopped photos.

Portal

To explore the idea of other worlds I decided to make a portal to one. The basis for a tower and portal were sculpted in clay, then photoshop was used to add a glowing portal effect. As an additional exploration I made a 3D model of the portal in Blender.

Materials: clay sculpture, photoshopped image and 3D render.

More human than dog?

One of our family pets often tries to act human (e.g. sitting at tables on chairs). This work reimagines her as she sees herself - in human form.

Materials: acrylic paint on paper.

Glitch world

An interpretation of the concept of multiple worlds. The photographs glitch and overlap, representing layered reality. Portals from this world link to other worlds.

Materials: acetate, foam board, mirror foil, paint and clay.

Treasure tin

Observational drawings and paintings of a tin containing the treasures of childhood.

Materials: acrylic, ballpoint pen and pencil.

Scratch portraiture

A series of fantasy portraits influenced by the art of Charlotte Caron.

Materials: photography and acrylic.

Acrylic worlds

Fantasy worlds loosely inspired by several TV series (The Dragon Prince and Dark Crystal, Age of Resistance) and holiday snaps I took of Lake Lucerne, Switzerland.

Materials: acrylic paint.

Flowers

Contrasting garden flowers with the drama of skyscapes.

Materials: acrylic paint.
